Artist story
I'm Carina Kinnman, an artist and former Art Director, I have a solid foundation in Design and Communication based in Stockholm, Sweden. My artistic journey has been a rich tapestry woven from the mastery of traditional Japanese ink calligraphy under the tutelage of a skilled Japanese Sensei, interlaced with explorations in Western figurative and abstract expressionism which started as soon as I could hold on to a pen.
My creations emphasize minimalism and abstract expressionism, brought to life through asemic and abstract nearly calligraphic Japandi Brushstrokes. I work primarily with Sumi ink, but from time to time also incorporate mineral pigments, charcoal, graphite and acrylics to achieve the desired effect. My work is a fusion of Scandinavian culture and nature with a passionate influence from Asian traditions, focusing on line, form, structure, and the beauty of imperfection within a limited palette.
All original artwork is painted on handmade Washi paper with Sumi ink, rooted in the wabi-sabi philosophy of beauty in imperfection.
